Come Celebrate Our Success! FEB 28, 2012 @ 12:00 PM

As the SSFWA Model Communities Initiative comes to a close, the Alliance is celebrating all the remarkable policy, systems and environmental change accompished (planting school gardens, establishing transportation steering commitees, sports camps, healthy corner stores, etc.) in an effort to make Chicago Heights a healthier place to live and work. Please join us for a brief "Celebration of Our Successes," which will be held Tuesday, February 28 from 12-1:30 PM at Washington Junior High School in Chicago Heights, IL. Refreshments, raffles and an healthy meal preparation educational session will be held. You won't want to miss out... WE COULDN'T HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT YOU! Greenbriar School Wins Fall 2011 Soccer Tournament

The Chicago Heights SSFWA entered into an "informal" joint use agreement with School District 170 and Chicago Heights Park District to create more opportunities for physical activity for youth. The result? City-wide Soccer Tournament, with Greenbriar emerging victorious as the 2011 Soccer Champs. Congrats to all who played hard.


Taste Tests in SD #170: Win An Amazon Kindle

The Chicago Heights South Suburban Family Wellness Alliance, through the Cook County Department of Public Health's "Model Communities Grant, is providing healthy vegetable "Taste Tests" to youth in Chicago Heights School District #170.  Students who volunteer to participate will be entered in a raffle to to win an Amazon Kindle, Barnes & Nobles NOOK or a soccer ball/football! A new winner will be drawn every lunch period for the week of September 26th - 30th, 2011.

Chicago Heights Community Bike Ride

Community Bike Rides in Chicago Heights: Assessing the "Walkability" and "Bikability" of the Community

The  Alliance, is encouraging all residents to bike and walk more to improve overall health and fitness.  Just 60 minutes a day of physical activity can make the difference! The Chicago Heights SSFWA is currently conducting community bike rides to promote physical activity and wellness in addition to assessing the community to improve its conduciveness to walking and biking.  The end result will be the formation of an Non-Motorized Transportation Committee that will effectively impact policy change around these areas.  Talk to a coalition member today to find out more about how you can be a part.  Remember.... everyone has a role to play in keeping our community healthy!

SAP Communication Campaign

Have you seen these posters? We sure hope so. It's a part of our substance abuse prevention (SAP) communication campaign to combat underage drinking, marijuana use and other illicit drug use by youth in Chicago Heights, as indicated by the Illinois Youth Survey.

Chicago Heights Fall Soccer Tournaments- Joint Use Agreement for Physical Activity

School District #170 is hosting a soccer tournament in the month of October 2011 for all Chicago Heights youth wishing to attend.
